The brazilian baritone Vicente Sampaio was born in São José dos Campos, in the interior of the state of São Paulo. His contact with music began at an early age, encouraged by his family and driven by a precocious interest in musical practice.

In 2008, at the age of 16, he joined the Youth Choir of his hometown under the direction of Maestro Sergio Wernec, with contralto Lidia Schäffer as his first voice teacher. In this context, he had his first contact with classical music and the operatic repertoire, an experience that proved decisive for his artistic development and his choice of a career in operatic singing.

In 2011, he moved to the city of São Paulo, where he began his academic studies in music. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a specialization in Classical Voice from the Institute of Arts of São Paulo State University (IA - Unesp), studying in the voice class of Professor Martha Herr. At the same time, he was a member of the opera class of Maestro Abel Rocha, participating for 5 years in the Fábrica de Óperas project (Unesp Opera Studio). During this period, he performed his first operatic roles, including Marcello in La Bohème; Gianni Schicchi, Simone, and Betto di Signa in Gianni Schicchi (Puccini); Papageno in The Magic Flute (Mozart); Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell); Sam in Trouble in Tahiti (Bernstein); and Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief (Menotti). During this time, he also received vocal and repertoire guidance from Professor Isabel Maresca.

In 2015, at the age of 22, he became a member of the Coral Paulistano of the São Paulo Municipal Theatre (São Paulo Opera House), under the direction of Maestros Martinho Lutero Galatti de Oliveira and Naomi Munakata. Over six years with the institution, he took part in major productions both as a choral singer and as a soloist, performing works such as The Creation (Haydn), Missa Brevis in F major K.192 and the Coronation Mass K.317 (Mozart), Requiem (Fauré), Requiem (Duruflé), Requiem (Liszt), Petite Messe Solennelle and Barber of Seville - “Fiorello” (Rossini), and Mass in G minor (Vaughan Williams).

In 2020, he moved to Hamburg, Germany, in order to expand his artistic training with a primary focus on opera. He subsequently began a Master’s degree in Opera at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where he studied in the class of Professor Geert Smits. During his studies, he performed the title role in The Marriage of Figaro (Mozart) and portrayed Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), in addition to appearing regularly in concerts within the university environment and at various cultural venues throughout the city of Hamburg, with particular emphasis on sacred and contemporary repertoire.

In 2025, he joined the SWR Vokalensemble as a guest singer and was a member of the Choir of the Bayreuth Festival, one of the most prestigious institutions dedicated to the works of Richard Wagner.

From January 2026, Vicente is a member of the Chorus of the Oper Leipzig.
